LTE: Legislature should not look for 'quick fix' I was appalled to read that the Legislature voted to spend $40,000 to do a study on the feasibility of charging tolls on the interstate -- $40,000, that's almost $4,000 more than the average Mainer makes in a year.

LTE: A story of a friend who has fallen on hard times I have this friend, and she has worked every day of her life. She was employed at a well-known place and was let go because they no longer needed her services. She collected unemployment for a short period of time until her benefits ran out. LTE: Maisel's 'fuzzy thinking' in column doesn't add up Kennebec Journal columnist L. Sandy Maisel, discussing President Bush's nominee for attorney general, says, "The Constitution is ambiguous as to whether the senators can withhold consent based on policy differences or only because a nominee does not have adequate qualifications." The weight of Maisel's piece is that churlish senators should not consider the nominee's repressive "policy differences" and should base their decision solely on his "qualifications."

LTE: Maybe Bush will be mere footnote in history 2009 has been on my mind lately. Jan. 20 will be the end of the George W. Bush presidency, and Feb. 12 will be Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. Is that an ironic juxtaposition or what?
